Videogame delayed over possible offence to Muslims

LONDON (AFP) - - Release of one of the most eagerly anticipated games in the history of the Sony PlayStation has been delayed because of concerns that some of the background music may offend Muslims, the game's developers said Monday.

LittleBigPlanet, in which gamers can customise the rag-doll protagonist Sackboy and allow it to roam through an interactive world filled with different challenges, had been hailed by video games website IGN as "nothing short of astounding" and given a review rating of 9.5 out of 10.

But its release date has been put back after one of its background music tracks, a song by Mali-born artist Toumani Diabate, was found to have included expressions from the Koran, which could be interpreted as an offence to Muslims.

"We're sure that most of you have heard by now that one of the background music tracks that was licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Koran," a statement on the game's website read.

"We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence this may have caused.

"We will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27," as opposed to its original release date of October 21.

According to a separate statement on the website of Media Molecule, the British-based developers of LittleBigPlanet, they were "shell-shocked and gutted" by the delay to the game's release.

"We learnt... that there is a lyric in one of the licensed tracks which some people may find offensive, and which slipped through the usual screening processes," the statement read.

"Obviously MM and Sony together took this very seriously. LBP should be enjoyable by all."

A post on a Sony public Internet forum alerted developers to the issue, noting that Diabate's "Tapha Niang" included two expressions from the Koran that could cause offence to Muslims.

The forum user, who identified himself only as "yasser", said that "Muslims consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Quran deeply offending (sic)," in a post on Thursday.

The delayed release was welcomed by some Muslim commentators, with Manzoor Moghal of the Muslim Forum think-tank telling the BBC that the game's developers should be praised for "taking decisive action by withdrawing these games immediately, and releasing a version that is not offensive to Muslims."

Sony was forced to apologise in June 2007 when it emerged that one of its video games, "Resistance: Fall of Man", featured a violent shootout inside a building that resembled an Anglican cathedral in Manchester, northern England.

The news was condemned by Anglican leaders, who demanded that the game be removed from store shelves, a request Sony refused.

In 2005, the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, deemed blasphemous in the Islamic world, in a Danish newspaper sparked outrage and violent protests in several countries.

The caricatures were then reprinted earlier this year by several other Danish newspapers.

Wow... amazingly it took me awhile to notice that the office space i was sitting at has a great view of the whole CBD area. Places like Orchard, City hall, Somerset, Singapore Flyer and etc was within the grasp of my hand. Wish I could show you guys the photo la, but I was too busy with my work too. Therefore I didn't have the chance to bring it to image to show on my blog. What I wish is to see the night view from the place, my office is located on the 39 floor, it is consider to be quite high as the highest level is 45. One word, MAGNIFICENT view. Think next time I shall stay to admire the night scene, woo I just love the view from above. It let me feel as though I am flying freely in the sky. Think most of the time I was staring out the window wishing that I was elsewhere not in Singapore enjoying myself. The more I see make me have the urge of travelling, I wanna get out of Singapore. I want a new and better life. In my whole life I always aim to travel the whole world and have a look beyond the low walls of Singapore. Learning cultures of other countries and enjoy life. But I think this is just a dream loz, but I really wish I could fulfill my wish someday. :)

Hmm really thought of watching this movie but dunno find who to watch sia. Anyone interested to watch this movie let me know k? Hey the theme song is very nice and touching, make me wanna lay in my bed with my blanket cover and start to 'emo'. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. You guys should try listening to it. Great recommendation.

Here some snapshot taken at the Mind Cafe last Thursday. Again you won't get to see my face in the picture, cos i am a photographer ma. The game shown in the picture above is I'm The Boss. It a game more on negotiation and earning big bucks when the deal do work out. Throughout the game u can hear voice hear and there negotiating for the best price. Normally I like to undercut the deal by offering just $1 million, that a very 'smelly' deal. Cause $1 million is the minimum offer for the deal. For those who wish to try out the game, it is available at all Mind Cafe outlet. As for the outcome of the game, i earn bout $37 million and I am in second position. The first position guy won about $40 million. It like I am yet so close to winning the game. Ha ha. Hey didn't you guys knew that this game is rank top in all the Mind Cafe. Damn doped la.

Movie,Foosball and Dota

We were playing Foosball before our 5.30 movie. A low cost no money source of entertainment in The Cathay. Look at their excited faces, made me wanna take some snap shot. As usual i am not feature in the photo, cause i am the photographer mah. But i am an unpaid freelance photographer. The whole shop was like fill up with out laughter and noise. Cause normally The Cathay quite quiet de, because of us huh it become damn happening loz.

The movie we watch was The House Bunny. It is featuring a playboy mansion bunny girl who eventually become a House Mummy in a hostel. Basically this whole movie is filled with babes, bimbos and hotties. Oh there is a girl in the movie who wear a metal "bra" who look like amazon girl, in the end she turn up damn hot la. From then on the whole movie I would look forward for her appearance lo.
